WikiMap,_2005

Rafael Marchetti (Argentina), Ars Electronica Futurelab (Austria), MediaLabMadrid (España).
Interactive urban map.

The plan of a city can be something more than the representation of streets and buildings. By means of the WikiMap, digital images, personal impressions, sounds, stories and the landscapes imagined by both inhabitants and visitors to the city will all form part of the map.

The WikiMap is a virtual map upon which users can link images, texts and sounds to specific places on the map, as if they were hypertexts on a webpage. Thus, it is possible for participation in the urban dynamics to move from the virtual to the actual.

The aim of this project is to develop a flexible, expandable multimedia environment that contributes to the creation of a collective citizens’ memory by means of a multiplicity of subjective visions, and which can have a huge variety of cultural, social and educational uses, etc.
