Mangoro Dja –mango vision in bambara- is an audiovisual, educational project to promote the development of independent, cultural audiovisual mediacenter in Bamako (Mali), self-managed by the community for the community. It began in January, 2006, with a training programme and audiovisual workshops, organised within the context of the World Social Forum in Bamako. Conceived of as a work-in-progress, Mangoro Dja has been set up with the aim of creating the conditions necessary to facilitate dialogue, education and self-expression among the different communities of Mali and to participate in the construction of an individual and collective imagery which encourages diversity of outlook and thought. It will thus become an instrument for participation that promotes citizens’ access not only to the reception of TV but also to the area of production, and the circulation of information, experiences and knowledge.

The projet has also been planned as the starting point for an audiovisual education campaign to promote diversity and cultural self-expression within the current media ecosystem, increasingly dominated by the hegemonic channels of the telecommunications market.
